The Hot Club Junior plays gypsy jazz and swing music on violin, cello, and guitar.  Maria McArthur, 13, is an award-winning fiddler but holds down rhythm and lead guitar duties while Lee MacDonald, 11, covers the bass, drum, and second violin parts all on his cello.  Lee’s brother Will MacDonald is the oldest member at 14 and leads the band  with his swinging fiddling and improvisation.  Maria and Will got their start on classical violin at Tucson Youth Music Center's free lessons for low - income children. The three musicians are all currently scholarship students of Nick Coventry and accomplished contest fiddlers as proven by their consistent top finishes in every statewide competition.  They formed the trio themselves in 2015 based on their common enthusiasm for the music of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli known as Gypsy Jazz.  Enthusiasm and pure youthful energy drive the Hot Club Junior's performances, along with an exceptional musical maturity evidenced by their sophisticated arrangements.

Above all, these three know how to swing and they have fun doing it!
